The competition Les Etoiles du Piano - International Piano Competition of the Hauts de France" is organized by the Association Les Etoiles du Piano, Association law 1901 of French law, non-profit, recognized of general interest (no. w595029207 of April 3, 2017).
The 3rd edition of the competition will take place in Roubaix from November 14 to 20, 2021.
Conditions of registration
The recruitment of candidates is open to pianists of all nationalities who meet the following conditions:
- Be between 18 and 32 years old (date of birth after November 20, 1989).
- Take a pianistic level at the end of study of a National Superior Conservatory of Music or National Superior School of Music.
Review and validation of registrations
The registration fee of € 75 is due upon confirmation of application by the selection committee. The application will only be effective after receipt of the registration fees.
Registrations can be closed at any time if the number of validated applications has reached its maximum and in any case they will be closed on September 15, 2021 at midnight.
The decisions taken by the management of the competition are sovereign and irrevocable.
The official convocation takes place at the latest 15 days before the tests.
In the event of withdrawal, candidates are requested to notify the competition management. In this case the registration fees are not refunded.
Travel costs and accommodation
Travel costs, as well as visas, are the responsibility of the participants; however an invitation letter may be available upon request.
Free accommodation with a host family with a piano is available on request.
During the competition, each host family ensures the transfer of the candidate that they host between their home and the different sites of the competition.
Candidates who do not wish to be hosted by a family do their business, at their expense, with their accommodation conditions.
Insurance and Civil Liability
The Association "Les Étoiles du Piano", organizer of the competition, holds a "Civil Liability" insurance which covers its own liability in the event of accidents occurring to participants within the framework of the competition, during the duration of the latter. . This insurance does not cover any accompanying persons.
3. Organization and running of the tests
Order of play
A public drawing of lots defining the order of passage of the candidates for the first round will take place during the welcome session.
The events will take place in the large concert hall of the Roubaix conservatory, which will be equipped with a “Grand Concert Yamaha CFX” piano.
Each candidate will be able to try out the competition piano on stage for a period of 15 minutes before the 1st round. The schedule will respect the order of the draw for the competition.
The 6 candidates selected for the final will benefit from an additional 30 minutes between the 2nd round and the final.
Before each test, the candidates will benefit from a piano in the dressing room for a preparation time of 20 minutes before entering the stage.
Apart from these 2 scenarios, the candidates will also be able to have access to the study pianos of the conservatory.
Organization and planning of services
Reception of candidates and families: Sunday November 14, 2021
First round: Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 November 2021
At the end of the test, the competition management will announce the 12 candidates selected by the jury for the second round and a new public draw will define the order of passage of these 12 candidates.
Second round: Wednesday, November 17, 2021
At the end of the test, the competition management will announce the 6 candidates selected by the jury for the final and a new public draw will define the order of passage of the 6 finalists.

For each test, candidates must present themselves at reception at the latest one hour before their scheduled time.
A candidate prevented from performing at the required time will be disqualified unless he justifies his absence in advance to the competition management who may exceptionally and at his discretion modify the order of performance of the candidates.
Interpretation from memory is mandatory.
The use of photocopied scores is prohibited.
All the events are open to the public free of charge, subject to availability.
The jury will be made up of musicians of international stature (see competition website).
The jury reserves the right to stop a candidate during execution if his performance is of a level incompatible with that of the competition. If a candidate is or has been a pupil of one of the jury members, this jury member does not participate in the marking.
The jury alone is competent to award or not the rewards. It reserves the right not to award all the prizes if it judges the level of the candidates insufficient.
In the event of a tie, the vote of the president of the jury is decisive and counts double.
The jury is sovereign in its decisions and these are final.
The competition management is in no way responsible for the decisions of the jury. It cannot modify or cancel them.
During the tests, the members of the jury are not allowed to communicate with the candidates.

Proclamation of the winners
The competition winners are publicly announced by the competition management at the end of the final.
The award ceremony takes place at the start of the closing ceremony.

Several paid recitals will be offered to the winners in the months following the competition. Travel costs are covered by the association.
A gala recital followed by a closing cocktail will be offered on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the “Colisée” in Roubaix.
Prior to the recital, the president of the competition surrounded by the members of the jury will award the prizes to the 6 winners.
Only the first three winners will perform at the Laureates Recital, however, attendance of all award winners at the closing ceremony is mandatory.
Prize-winners who do not attend the closing ceremony will lose their prize (s) and their prize-winner's diploma (s).
Candidates are required to accept all interviews, interviews, videos or promotional meetings related to the competition.
The competition management reserves the right to make or authorize during the entire duration of the tests as well as during the closing ceremony any audio or video recording as well as the taking of any photograph. It also reserves the right to ensure its conservation and communication for the benefit of the Association Les Étoiles du piano, as well as to retain ownership.
By virtue of their participation in the competition alone, the winners authorize, free of charge, the Association Les Étoiles du piano to use their name, first name (s), image as well as, if applicable, any other attributes of their personality. , for the purposes of communication relating to the competition exclusively, by all digital and / or analog processes, on all media, for the whole world and for a period of three (3) years from the start of the competition.
Candidates undertake to be free from any other activity whatsoever throughout the duration of the Competition.
The candidates as well as their possible companions undertake to comply at all times with the instructions issued by the competition management and to strictly respect the rules of use and safety of the places made available to them.
Registration and participation in the competition entail full and complete acceptance of these rules.
Failure to comply with one or more rules of these regulations results in the disqualification of the candidate, this decision cannot be appealed against.
In the event of a dispute, only the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Lille has jurisdiction.
